Lean Manufacturing

Early in the process, Autocam Medical's engineering team works closely with the customer's engineers, designers and marketers to design components for manufacturability.

A decades-long, value-added approach to high-precision manufacturing.

Autocam Corporation serves as an industry leader in the implementation of lean manufacturing principles, based on continuous improvement. Again and again, this approach has proven its value to our customers. At Autocam Medical, we strive to eliminate non-value-added costs, such as work-in-process inventory and unnecessary inspections. As a result, we have been able to reduce production downtime and dramatically shorten the time it takes to convert raw material into finished products. Shorter lead times mean faster time-to-market and lower overall costs for our customers.

As a leading supplier to demanding medical device OEMS, we build patient-critical quality into all aspects of our manufacturing process. When you involve Autocam Medical early, we can ensure your product is designed for manufacturability; we can also assist with rapid prototyping and validation of first article-machined components. Early involvement means Autocam Medical has the opportunity to streamline and add value to your entire process, from design to delivery. Our proven, comprehensive approach to lean manufacturing is documented in the booklet, Journey to Perfection, which is available upon request.

Our sophisticated data management system includes record control and immediate traceability.

Autocam Medical recognizes our customer's need to trace products back to any stage of the manufacturing process, and has implemented a comprehensive series of record-control and traceability protocols.

All manufacturing data, including raw material certifications, are stored within the Autocam Medical Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Data is filed by mill heat number and tied to the production lot for each product and run. Device History Records (DHR) are filed by customer, part number and lot number for quick and easy retrieval.

The Autocam Medical manufacturing data system features:
  • Device History Records (DHR)
  • Certificates of Conformance
  • Full value-stream traceability from raw material to delivery
  • Routing Tag (traveler)
  • Supplier Certifications
  • Manufacturing Inspection Records
  • Customer Scorecards
